Using iPads and other digital tools/apps for composition, performance and creativity
Using iPads and GarageBand offers an exciting, approach to musical learning enabling pupils from KS2 upwards to learn how to compose, perform, and produce music.
Garageband is a free, user-friendly digital audio workstation (DAW) developed by Apple for macOS and iOS, designed to make music production accessible to all. It acts as a comprehensive studio, allowing users to record, edit, and mix audio, create podcasts, and play virtual instruments directly on their device.
The app includes a vast, built-in sound library with keyboards, guitars, and "smart instruments" that allow users to play, even without musical training. It features virtual session drummers that automatically follow along with user-created beats.
Garageband can be used for recording and editing and users can plug in real instruments or use the microphone to record audio, which can then be edited, rearranged, and mixed. The app features include a MIDI editor, a beat sequencer for creating drum patterns, and a wide array of loops and samples.
Solihull Music can deliver iPad projects designed to meet the needs of your setting. A specialist Solihull Music tutor will work with your pupils alongside the class teacher and teaching assistants.
To ensure music leaders are able to support pupils the programme is designed to work with groups of maximum 6 pupils per session ( minimum 45 minute session)
