Charging, Subsidy, and Discounts Policy

Overview Solihull Music is committed to ensuring that all pupils have equal access to music education, regardless of their parents' or carers' financial circumstances. This policy outlines how we allocate resources to maximize participation in our music programs.

Pupil Premium and Support Programs

  1. Pupil Premium Funded Lessons:
    • Solihull Music collaborates with schools to provide free in-school instrumental lessons for pupils eligible for Pupil Premium or Pupil Premium Plus funding.
  2. Children in Care Opportunities:
    • Partnering with West Midlands Virtual Schools, we offer free 20-minute instrumental lessons and instrument hire for children in care through Solihull MBC and other local authorities.
  3. Free School Meals (FSM) Instrumental Program:
    • Starting September 2024, we will develop an out-of-school music center for pupils eligible for FSM, funded by DfE.

Discounts Policy

Children and young people aged 5-18 in Solihull may be eligible for financial support for out-of-school music provision. Discounts apply to:

  • Instrumental or vocal lessons
  • Instrumental hire
  • Membership in ensembles and vocal groups

Eligibility for Remission of Fees:

  • 100% Remission:
    • Asylum-seeking children
    • Children in local authority care (LAC)
  • 50% Remission:
    • Families on Income Support
    • Recipients of:
      • Free School Meals
      • Job Seekers Allowance
      • State Pension Credit
      • Child Tax Credit (with specific income criteria)
      • Universal Credit (income under £7,400)
      • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Exclusions: Remissions do not apply if the student:

  • Has lessons with an independent provider
  • Attends an independent school outside Solihull
  • Is under 5 or over 18 years old
  • Requests a second instrument or lesson

To apply for fee remissions, contact Solihull Music at 0121 704 6500 or email solihullmusic@solihull.gov.uk. After your request, we will inform you within two working days about the evidence required.

Period of Support

Remission is reviewed annually. If granted, it remains effective from September to August. Funding may be withdrawn if students do not demonstrate adequate commitment and progress, with reviews conducted termly.
