About the programme
Solihull Sound Collective programme is now in its fourth year and well established, with a proven and repeated positive impact on the young people that have been involved through either open access and/or targeted pathways.
Sessions are based in the local community and equip young people with the skills and equipment needed to create and record their own music. The programme has a focus on improving overall wellbeing as well as employability prospects.
Young people are invited to take part on the programme following referrals from professionals such as the Youth Justice Team and/or Exploitation team.
The young people are provided with 1:1 support from music leaders who also act as mentors to discuss issues and concerns they may have outside of the studio.
Young people are supported to write their own music and are offered opportunities to use state of the art recording studios and equipment at professional music studios to record their own tracks and music videos.
From September 2025 sessions will support all young people involved to gain accreditation through the AQA unit Award scheme as part of the programme.
Aims of the Programme
1. Develop the creative, expressive, and musical skills of children and young people
2. Improve self-efficacy and self-esteem (skills, engagement, and self-confidence)
